Butcher Learning Stipends

The Good Meat Project’s Butcher Learning Stipend helps emerging butchers attend workshops and trainings to launch or grow their careers.

So You Wanna Be a Butcher? Let the Good Meat Project Help Start or Grow Your Career

The Good Meat Project’s Butcher Learning Stipend helps emerging butchers attend workshops and trainings to launch or grow their careers.

Apply for a Butcher Learning Stipend

We need more butchers now than ever. That’s why Good Meat Project is offering up to $250 in financial support for anyone serious about learning or honing their butchery skills. You choose the butchery class or workshop, and we’ll help cover the registration cost.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. We have a limited number of stipends available. Priority will be given to applicants who demonstrate a clear commitment to pursuing a career in butchery or a related field.

How It Works

1. Choose a Workshop: Identify the butchery workshop/class you want to attend. See suggested trainings below if you need ideas.

2. Apply for a Stipend: Submit a Butcher Learning Stipend Application. GMP will review your application and notify you by email within two business days.

3. Register & Submit Receipts: If approved, register for your workshop and send GMP your registration receipt, an invoice, and a completed W9 form

GMP will process reimbursement via check or direct deposit. Please allow up to 30 business days.

4. Complete a Post-Workshop Report: Within two weeks of attending, submit a brief Post-Workshop Report, including a short testimonial and at least two photos or videos.

This helps us maintain and grow the stipend program to support more aspiring butchers.

An Important Note

This is a reimbursement program. Participants pay the workshop registration fee first, then GMP reimburses up to $250 for qualifying costs. Funds may only be used to pay for class or workshop registration fees. Travel, lodging, meals, etc. are not covered. If reimbursement is a financial barrier for you, please contact us at programs@goodmeatproject.org and we’ll do our best to work with you.

Butchery Learning Opportunities

  • Visit our Butchery Learning Opportunities page for list of classes/workshops across the country
  • Or, choose any qualifying workshop or class. It does not have to be from our list.

Is our list missing something? Suggest it! There are many more classes out there, and we’re happy to add yours to the list. Email programs@goodmeatproject.org
